Family Support and Mentoring (FSM)

The goal of the Family Support and Mentoring (FSM) program is to empower families to direct their future services and outcomes, as well as foster a sense of belonging in their family and community. Acceptional Minds works with all family members together and individually to maximize understanding and results.

Acceptional Minds believes “it takes a village,” and collaborates with as many support systems and agencies as we are able to with written permission. Community involvement is essential for success later in life. We have worked with schools, libraries, community recreational programs, outreach events, and more. Acceptional Minds helps families, caregivers, and community members put long term supports in place, making sure that once our direct services are no longer needed they can continue programming. We will continue to collaborate as needed.

Parent Education

Parent Education involves instruction in:

  • Effective communication strategies
  • Social skills training and programs
  • Tailored behavioral modification techniques
  • Autism, special education, and/or related fields and services
  • Locating beneficial resources
  • The importance of self-care
  • Peer support for parents
  • Educating and integrating siblings
  • Learning to work as a family unit/team and integrating skills into family living
  • Re-integrating back into the community

Supporting the Acceptional Family Environment (SAFE) Training

  • Acceptional Minds provides Supporting the Acceptional Family Environment Training (SAFE Training). SAFE Training includes:
  • Effective communication strategies
  • Social skills training and programs
  • Tailored behavior modification techniques
  • General information on autism, atypical brain development, special education and/or related fields and services
  • Locating beneficial resources
  • The importance of self-care
  • Peer support or professionals
  • Educating and integrating families
  • Learning to teach families/individuals to work as a family unit/team, meanwhile integrating skills into family living
  • Reintegrate individuals back into the community
