Food Service Worker Job Description 

Job Summary: The primary responsibility of the Food Service Worker is to plan, prepare, and distribute lunches and snacks for 20-30 youth in our Acceptional Academy and Summer skill-building programs and Lunch and Dinner to our School/After-School youth programs during the school year. This position would be scheduled 10am-2pm M-F in the summer and 10-5 during the school year.


  • Work closely with the Administrative Services Manager to plan snacks lunch, and dinner menu for approximately 20-30 youth 
  • Review daily rosters of clients to plan number and type of lunches/dinners for the day 
  • Do all meal preparations for lunches including, but not limited to measuring, cutting, dicing, dividing, mixing, and appropriately heating and cooking of food 
  • Follow safe and sanitary food service guidelines 
  • Ability to be safe and flexible with dietary needs of our clients 
  • Collect all finished lunch trays and lunch materials and clean all the dishes from lunch and lunch prep work. 
  • Prepare and bag up snacks to be distributed the next day 
  • Connect and work flexibly with our diverse group of clients 
  • Flexibly make menu changes to minimize food waste 

Required Skills/Abilities:  

  • Ability to cook food to an appropriate temperature 
  • Ability to measure, dice, cut, divide, mix and otherwise prepare food for lunch and snacks 
  • Ability to clean and sanitize dishes and work areas  
  • Exceptional divided attention skills 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate. 
  • Ability to work well with others 
  • Understanding and knowledgeable on working with a diverse population of staff, clients, and their families 
  • Ability to plan schedules within Center ratios and adjust as needed. 

Certification/License Requirements 

  • CPR/AED Certification (within 90 days) 
  • Mental Health First Aid (within 90 days)  
  • Handle with Care (within 90 days)  
  • Mandated Reported (within 90 days) 
  • ACES training (annually)  
  • Safeserv certification prefered 

Physical Requirements:  

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking. 
  • Must be able to lift up to 10lbs routinely and up to 50lbs occasionally 
  • Must be able to safely perform a restraint under the training and guidance of Handle with Care training
